In recent news, apparently Odex and their infamous attack on Anime downloader has caught the attention of many again.
“Hated Singapore anime licensor Odex continues its crusade against torrent using anime downloaders in Singapore, with its most recent move being to enlist the help of a number of Japanese studios to take legal action against a few downloaders who declined to roll over and pay a settlement.
Odex, which assures us its actions are definitely not “a profiteering mission to get as much money from everybody”, originally took action against naive torrent users after demanding user data from ISPs and enlisting the services of dubious anti-piracy companies, only to be rebuffed by the courts.
The studios, Showgate, Geneon Entertainment, TV Tokyo, GDH, and Sunrise, must all involve themselves (at least by proxy), as the earlier court ruling held that Odex could not itself sue, and that only the original copyright holders could act. Odex thus roped in the studios concerned to continue its actions.
Supposedly, Odex is not behind this most recent set of actions, although this leaves open the question of why Japanese studios would bother with litigation in Singapore.
A simplistic PR attempt to stop any more ill will being generated against the company by trying to portray the campaign as the actions of a third party, perhaps?
You can see a full account of this wicked company on the Odex Haet Wiki. Their anti-P2P crusade even has an entire article to itself now.
Amusingly, the company itself still hasn’t restored its website after it was hacked during the last fracas…”
Honestly, I’m really interested in seeing what they’re going to do in the future, now that the economic crisis is here and more people are boycotting them. Would they realise the fact that they suck and try to AT LEAST imrpove their packaging since that’s THE LEAST that they can do to attract attention from kids that are unaware of their doings.
In other news, a list of to-do’s:
- I’ll get a good banner up soon, i just need to find the appropriate theme and image.
- Get a less depressing background if possible
- Customize the blog as far as i could
- Work on my fanfic
1) Yes a good banner for the site. It’s depressing staring at nothing.
2) Again, depressing background only fits users that has a depressing personality. Unfortunately, I have split personalities.
3) This blog right now is pathetically pathetic (wait what?), so in the future i’ll tweak the blog here and there so that it looks good.
4) Fanfic i say? Yes fanfic i said. Based on the Haruhi universe, the setting is 5 years after the unannounced book ten. “It’s not even out yet, how can you know what’s going to happen?” Oh please if you’ve been watching anime for long enough or read the light novels thoroughly, you don’t even need to read book ten to guess the possible outcomes. Right now the fanfic i’m writing is still at the prologue (95%), and i’m hoping that book ten would release within next year so that i could clear the holes in my fanfic to make it a good one.
Other than that, I’m the visual novel project i’m currently helping out, although looked as if it’s on hiatus, is actually progressing at an incredibly slow speed. I estimate by the time i finish my University, we’ll be almost done. ALMOST. But depending on how fast Tuna’s working on the main plot, my estimation could be a few years off, since when the main plot is over and it’s time for us script writers to work, the progress rate could be accelerated by 3 times approx.
More info on the project here -> Worlds of Haruhi
Lets see, what else…Oh yes, the AFACON, or known as the Anime Festival Asia Convention, is coming up this Saturday, just a few days from now. I’ll be going on both days, day one for scouting, and day two for the May’n Concert with my pals. Oh man i can’t wait to see how this event would turn out: Good enough? Or Still needs improvment?
That is all for today then, more news in the next few days.
